Free Rice Campaign is back

The SHSC has just launched a campaign via www.freerice.com to reach 40,000 grains of rice by 20th December 2012! It would be great if you could join in and support us?

freerice

The Freerice campaign is linked to the World Food Programme (WFP). You can register online completely free of charge and join the NSS Freerice Team. Choose any of the subjects you wish to play Maths, English, Foreign Languages, Geography etc. Play the quiz online and for every correct answer you will be contributing 10 grains of rice.

Our target of 40,000 grains of rice is enough to feed two people for just one day.

Please join the NSS Freerice team and help us reach the target. To register go to www.freerice.com

Adopt-a-beach Cramond Beach

Adopt a beach - Cramond beach Vivian and Calum 15th September – Saturday morning, sunny and cold breeze….perfect settings for 50 volunteers to clean the beach and help the Marine Conservation Society.

Vivian went to the Cramond Beach and helped clearing the designated area. We found sanitary towels, pieces of plastic, and a whole car tyre.

Volunteering for the Marine Conservation Society is very rewarding, you can clean the beach and help the environment, do some exercise on Saturday morning, and meet nice people.

If you wish to take part, please visit the http://www.mcsuk.org/ or email the local coordinator – Anne Saunders Anne.Saunders@mcsuk.org

Pedal for Scotland – Corporate Challenge Team

NHS Scotland NSS Pedal for Scotland team

49 miles cycling – a bit of madness!

A team of the NHS NSS including members of the SHSC (Vivian Maeda and Marie Diais) joined bikes and decided to cycle across the country from Glasgow to Edinburgh. They cycled through Avonbridge, Linlithgow, Kirkliston and Edinburgh Murrayfield Stadium. The weather was good and the event was well organised: we had feed stations to keep us going, good signage, good support from bike mechanics, marshalls, first aiders/paramedics and the police.

The event helped raising funds towards Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centre, encouraged and promoted cycling, offered a healthy day out and made us all feel proud of the medal! What an achievement, well done!
